Pre-salt fields break production record in February
According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. (ANP) 2.566 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 111.55 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of natural gas were produced through 136 wells. There was an increase of 3.2% in relation to the previous month and 15% in comparison with the same month of the previous year. It was also the highest production ever recorded in this environment, surpassing that of October 2022, when 3.142 million boe/d were produced.
In a statement, the ANP reported that in February domestic production was 4,183 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), of which 3,262 million bbl/d and 146,540 million m³/d. It was the highest total production ever recorded, surpassing that of October 2022, when 4.180 million boe/d were produced.
In oil, there was a reduction of 0.4% compared to the previous month and an increase of 11.8% compared to February 2022. In natural gas, production grew 2.3% compared to January 2023 and 10% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Natural gas
The use of natural gas was 97.4%. 49.40 million m³/d were made available to the market and the burning was 3.81 million m³/d. There was a reduction in burning of 8.1% compared to the previous month and an increase of 25.4% compared to February 2022.
Production
In the month, offshore fields produced 97.9% of oil and 87.1% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 92.25% of the total produced. Production came from 5,381 wells, 496 offshore and 4,885 onshore.
Biggest producer
The Tupi field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, was the largest oil and gas producer in February, registering 824.5 thousand bbl/d of oil and 38.81 million m³/d of natural gas. The facility with the highest production of oil and natural gas was the FPSO (oil and gas processing unit) Guanabara, which produced 178,776 thousand bbl/d of oil and 11.45 million m3/d of natural gas in the shared deposit of Mero .
