MINING: Award recognizes public management of “mining cities”

The Mining Municipalities Award reaches its second edition this year, recognizing the quality of services provided by municipalities with mining activities in their territory. The analyzed categories are Health; Education; Social Protection; Infrastructure; Environment; Management; Finance and Economic Development. The award is a realization of the Public Agenda and the Brazilian Institute of Mining (IBRAM).

24 initiatives were nominated as finalists for the award. On May 31, 8 will be awarded in different dimensions, and another 5 cities will be recognized for their regional performance, one in each macro-region of Brazil. Director of Agenda Pública Sérgio Andrade talks about the importance of this incentive: “We highlight what these municipalities do, do and can inspire others in the country to achieve improvements in these various areas”, he said.

The director points out how these good examples of public governance generate results for society: “It is important to highlight good management, because it is the way to translate development opportunities, the investments that these municipalities make for the entire population, how to get all the benefits that are generated in some way, by growth and investments directly or indirectly linked to the mining activity”, he pointed out.

The award is aimed at mining municipalities that have the highest CFEM (Financial Compensation for Exploitation of Mineral Resources) collection rates and that have quality in the provision of public services.
