Pix became the planet’s second instant payment system, released this Wednesday (19) the Central Bank (BC). With 29.2 billion transactions in 2022, the modality holds 15% of operations of this type worldwide.

The data, informed the BC, were systematized by the Prime Time for Real-Time Report survey, carried out by specialized companies ACI Worldwide and GlobalData. According to the survey, only India recorded more instant transfer operations than Brazil, with 89.5 billion operations.

Despite the predominance of India, which last week took the place of China among the most populous nations, with 1.4 billion inhabitants, the Pix had a greater acceleration last year. In 2022, the number of transactions through Pix rose 228.9%, against an increase of 76.8% in the Indian transfer system.

According to the survey, completing the list of the largest global markets in number of transactions, China, with 17.6 billion transactions (growth of 0.9%); Thailand, with 16.5 billion transactions (63.4% growth), and South Korea, with 8 billion transactions (9.6% growth)

“By showing an international panorama, the work shows how Pix is ​​a successful public policy that is positively impacting society, bringing efficiency and cost reduction to the country, and transforming the lives of millions of people and companies” , said Mayara Yano, senior advisor at the Department of Competition and Financial Market Structure (Decem) at the Central Bank, in a statement released by the agency.

Estimates

The survey also presented estimates for the instant payment system over the next four years. According to the study, the number of instant electronic transactions across the planet will rise from 195 billion in 2022 to 511.7 billion in 2027. According to projections, four years from now, instant systems will account for 27.8% of all means of electronic payments in the world.

The survey also measured the average of monthly Pix transactions by people aged 15 and over. According to the survey, Brazil ranked fourth in 2022, with each person making, on average, 14.2 operations per Pix each month. The top spots went to Thailand (23 transactions on average), Bahrain (19.1) and South Korea (14.7).

The work also presented perspectives for average monthly transactions. According to consultancies, in 2027, each Brazilian over 15 years old should perform, on average, 51.8 operations per Pix each month. That would leave Brazil in second place, just behind Bahrain, whose average will rise to 83.3 transfers per inhabitant over the next four years.
