Government of São Paulo allows installment of IPVA in up to 10 installments

Since last Monday (29), Taxes on Motor Vehicle Ownership (IPVA) entered in overdue debt can be paid in up to 10 installments.

Any citizen can pay in installments, even if he is not the owner of the vehicle. After consulting the debts on the PGE/SP website with the vehicle’s RENAVAM number, the taxpayer can settle or pay the debts in installments on the Dívida Ativa portal.

Lawyer Wanderson Silva explains that this measure adopted by the state of São Paulo is very positive.

“On the one hand, the state benefits because half of the amount collected from this tax goes there, while the other half goes to the municipality where the vehicle is licensed. Thus, the collection of said tax represents an increase in revenue for both the state and the municipality. Which consequently ends up reverberating in the application of these values to the benefit of the local society itself through investment, for example, in education, health, public policies. On the other hand, the taxpayer also benefits from this measure. Because with the installment, your name leaves the active debt, as well as any protests are downloaded, which therefore means a possibility for taxpayers with the name on the active debt to recover their financial health”, explained Silva.

This year, the expectation is to carry out 50,000 installment agreements for IPVA debts registered in overdue debt.
