São Paulo registers an increase of 0.4% in the creation of formal jobs

There was a 0.4% increase in the generation of formal jobs in the state of São Paulo, representing the creation of 55,000 new jobs. These data refer to the month of April 2023. In addition, in the first four months of this year, the state recorded the creation of 190,000 new jobs, according to reports from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged).

Otto Nogami, an economist, believes that a large part of this increase in employability may have occurred due to the increase in economic activity, as attested by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) projections, which in 2023 point to a growth of 1.4%.

“And in agriculture, which was the sector that registered the highest growth of 1.1%, this happened basically due to the movement of harvesting crops that mobilizes the transport and storage segment”, he explains.

According to the government of São Paulo, there was growth in employment in the sectors of construction (0.9%), services (0.4%), industry (0.4%) and commerce (0.3%). The distribution of new jobs was as follows: 3,716 for agriculture, livestock and fishing; 9,339 for industry; 6,686 for construction; 7,425 for trade; and 27,744 for services. In the services sector, the sectors of transport, storage and mail, and human health and social services stand out.

Among the administrative regions, the state capital led the creation of jobs with 12,310 new jobs, followed by Campinas which created 11,585 new jobs, the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (excluding the capital) with 8,222, Sorocaba with 4,394, Bauru with 3,700 and São José dos Campos with 2,944.
