Volkswagen reported that there will be a temporary stoppage of production at its car factories in Brazil. According to the company, the cause is “market stagnation”.

According to the company, all flexibility tools aimed at workers, considering the suspension of production, “are provided for in a collective agreement signed between the union and Volkswagen employees”.

The factory in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, where the T-Cross is produced, has a shift in layoff (temporary suspension of work) since June 5th of this year. The expected duration is 2 to 5 months. The unit’s other shift has been stopped since Monday (26) and will be suspended until Friday (30), on an hourly basis.

The Taubaté unit, in São Paulo, where the Polo Track and Novo Polo are manufactured, has had two production shifts interrupted since the 26th, also on an hourly basis. The suspension runs until Friday (30),
The Anchieta factory, in São Bernardo do Campo, also in São Paulo, where the Novo Virtus, Novo Polo, Nivus and Saveiro models are produced, is on a ten-day collective vacation scheduled for the two production shifts starting on July 10 .

government incentive

The automaker’s decision comes even after the launch, on the last 6th, of a incentive program from the federal government to the automotive industry, which temporarily created discounts for the purchase of cars, buses and trucks.

Experts heard by Brazil Agency said the package could not have the expected effect about the industry and that the short duration and volume of resources of the aid program could be limited in scope, that little will change the situation in the sector.

When the incentive was announced, economics professor at Ibmec, Gilberto Braga praised the program, but questioned the limited period of four months and the amount of R$ 1.5 billion, which he considered low. For him, the package is in the right direction, but it would need to be expanded to have a lasting effect on the automotive industry.
