MG: growth of 1.4% is expected in the fiber harvest
With regard to beans, since the beginning of the harvest in May, the drier climate during the maturation period of the product, contributes to its better quality. “Total bean production should be around 9.2% higher than last season, reaching around 530,000 tons”, says the superintendent.
Feliciano Nogueira explains that the production estimate is around 5.1 million tons for corn in the first harvest. As for second-crop corn crops, which have been growing under favorable weather conditions, there is an expectation of increased production in relation to the last crop.
“It is estimated a growth of around 32.5% in this production that should reach 2.9 million tons, therefore, the corn crop between the first and second harvest, the production estimate is 8 million tons, that is , 4.2% higher than the previous harvest”, he explains.
According to data released by the National Supply Company (Conab), the 2022 and 2023 grain harvest in Minas Gerais forecasts record production. The current projection indicates a volume of around 18.6 million tons, an increase of 10.6% compared to the previous harvest, which recorded a record production of 16.8 million tons.
Exports
Minas Gerais agribusiness exports totaled US$ 5.8 billion from January to May 2023, registering a drop of 8.1% compared to the same period last year, but with an increase of 10.5% in the volume of products shipped, totaling 6.1 million tons.
This value represented 35.6% of Minas’ total sales to the international market. In the month of May, exports totaled US$ 1.4 billion with the shipment of 1.7 million tons, showing a 6% drop in prices, but a 14% increase in the volume shipped compared to the same month in 2022.
