CNC: Brazilian household debt remains stable in June
According to data from the Consumer Debt and Default Survey (Peic), carried out monthly by the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), after three months of growth, the percentage of Brazilians in debt in June 2024 remained at 78.8% – the same percentage recorded in May.
Furthermore, the total percentage of families with overdue debts increased to 28.8%, an increase of 0.2 pp compared to May of this year. Despite the increase in defaults, the percentage of consumers with more than half of their income committed to debts fell 0.4 pp in the monthly comparison, reaching 20.4%.
The survey shows that credit cards continue to have the largest share of debtors in the month, being used by 86.4% of all debtors. This value represents a decrease of 0.5 pp in relation to the previous month and 0.6 pp in comparison to June last year.
