Dollar ends falling session, below R$6
After closing eight sessions above R$6, the dollar ended the last session down 1.30%, quoted at R$5.96. This was the second consecutive depreciation of the American currency.
The closing of the dollar below R$6 occurred before the publication of the new basic interest rate by the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom), which met this Wednesday (11).
In addition to inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index (IPC) remaining within expectations, investors also followed the more optimistic scenario for the approval of the federal government’s fiscal package in Congress, in the same way they monitored President Lula’s health.
The last time the dollar closed below R$6 was at the end of November, one day after the government presented the review of the spending package.
The commercial euro also depreciated, but by 1.62% and is quoted at R$6.26.
