Dollar closes trading session with a new record, quoted at R$ 6.26
The dollar ended the last trading session with the highest daily appreciation in more than two years and reached a new record, being quoted at R$6.26. The increase in the American currency was almost 3%, appreciating 2.82%. This time the Central Bank did not intervene in the foreign exchange market, as occurred in previous sessions.
In the early afternoon, the currency reached R$6.19, after statements by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, that the exchange rate is floating and mentioning possible speculative movements.
The market is following with increasing fear the progress of the government’s fiscal package in the National Congress, paying attention to possible dehydrations in the proposed measures in relation to government spending cuts
The worsening of the exchange rate was also driven by the adjustment of expectations regarding the Federal Reserve’s reduction of the American interest rate by 0.25 percentage points, from 4.25% to 4.50% per year.
The commercial euro appreciated by 1.73%, quoted at R$6.50.
