Agricultural production: Sorriso (MT) leads the ranking of largest producer; check the list

The production value of Brazil’s main agricultural crops fell by 2.3% in 2023, compared to 2022, reaching R$814.5 billion. However, the grain harvest broke a record, reaching 316.4 million tons. This volume is 19.6% higher than the production of the previous year. The country’s planted area, taking into account all crops, reached 96.3 million hectares. data were published this Thursday (12), by IBGE.

The research supervisor, Winicius Wagner, highlights that production had a significant volume, but some factors contributed to a reduction in the price paid to producers.

“The excess supply of these products, combined with a correction in the main commodities on the international market and the strengthening of the real against the dollar, led to a drop in prices paid to producers, which directly affected the national Agricultural Production Value, which fell by 2.3% in the year”, he points out.

Among the municipalities, Sorriso (MT) stands out in agricultural production for the fifth consecutive year and accounts for 1% of the national total. The municipality also presented good numbers in relation to the value generated by the production of soybeans (R$ 5 billion) and corn (R$ 2.1 billion).

In second place in the ranking is São Desidério (BA), which, in relation to the value of agricultural production, totaled R$ 7.8 billion, with a drop of 12.4% compared to 2022. The production of soybeans, cotton and corn were highlights in the municipality, with a total of R$ 7.6 billion.

Sapezal (MT) ranks third among the municipalities with the highest value of agricultural production in the country, with R$7.5 billion, and a 5.9% decline compared to the previous year. The municipality stood out in the production of herbaceous cotton, obtaining the highest value generated by the product, approximately R$3.5 billion.

In 2023, the 10 municipalities with the highest agricultural production values were together responsible for R$65.1 billion, accounting for 8% of the value obtained in the country from agricultural production. Six of them are located in Mato Grosso, while Bahia and Goiás appear with two municipalities each.

“After the water shortage in 2022 affected crop performance that year, especially grain production, in 2023 we noticed that rainfall was better distributed throughout the period, from planting to harvest. This led to a recovery in the productivity of these crops, which directly impacted the increase in production for the year”, highlights Winicius Wagner.
