Agro generated more than 359.6 thousand formalized jobs in the sector
In the last three years, the formality rate in agribusiness increased from 38.4% to 40.1%. In 2019, 13 million 620 thousand people worked in agriculture and agribusiness. In 2022, that number increased to 13 million 960 thousand people. According to the study coordinator and FGVAgro researcher – Felippe Serigatti, the growth of formalization in the field is linked to the incorporation of technology and management improvement.
“The agro, as it was incorporating technology, improving the quality of its management, making its production process more sophisticated, it ended up on the one hand demanding a more qualified workforce and this workforce requires a more formal hiring pattern”, scores
The survey data show that the agro has expanded the hiring of workers and offered more qualified vacancies, even though there is a high rate of registration of cases of informalization in the sector and of jobs similar to slavery. For the economist and professor at FGV-EAESP, Renan Pieri, even with the increase in vacancies, companies perceive a shortage of labor and argues that the solution is to provide incentives.
“With the growth of the sector, the challenge is to find qualified labor and this involves improving the Brazilian educational system, with more training in technical courses and higher education focused on the demands of agribusiness and for large companies to invest in courses for its professionals”, he points out.
The rise in formal contract hiring generates cost stability for companies, access to labor rights for employees, facilitates access to credit and drives the economy.
