Author of bill extending incentives for Sudam/Sudene expects approval in May
A bill extending the benefits for the development superintendencies of the Amazon (Sudam) and the Northeast (Sudene) for another 5 years, until December 31, 2028, is pending in the Chamber of Deputies. (PDT-CE), PL 4416 is ready to be voted on by the Chamber’s Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJC). If approved, the text will be sent to the Senate for analysis.

Approval must take place in the first semester so that it is incorporated into the 2024 budget and there is no discontinuity in projects and investments. The author of the proposal, Deputy Júlio César (PSD-PI), expects the text to be approved by Congress in May and turned into law by June 30. He emphasizes the importance of incentives.

“Very important because it attracts more investment, job creation, tax generation. These incentives already exist. The term is expected to end this year and we are working to continue it for another 5 years. We want to at least maintain what we already have and work to increase it in the future and attract new investments to generate jobs, income, taxes and contribute to increasing the wealth of our Northeast region”, he points out.

The project was the subject of debate between representatives of the industry, the government and parliamentarians in the “Programa Knowing the Industry”, held last Thursday and Friday (12), in Bahia. The event was organized by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), in partnership with the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB) and the Nordeste Forte Association, which brings together all the presidents of industry federations in the Northeast – including Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Santo, which are part of Sudene’s area of ​​operation.

The CNI considers that the approval of the bill is essential for the development of the Northeast and North, as well as for maintaining and attracting industries to the regions, as explained by CNI’s Policy and Industry specialist, Ana Fidelis.

“We consider it important for the development of the North and Northeast regions, which represent about two thirds of the country’s states. Brazil is full of inequalities. And the reduction of these imbalances will only occur with the implementation of clear, strong and sustainable development policies regional. Such is the importance that there is a constitutional provision for these instruments,” he says.

Sudam and Sudene

Sudam and Sudene are part of the Federal Planning and Budget System and have administrative and financial autonomy. Linked to the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MDIR), the autarchy aims to promote the inclusive and sustainable development of the areas in which it operates, in addition to the competitive integration of the regional productive base in the national and international economy.

Headquartered in Belém, capital of Pará, Sudam’s operations cover the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Roraima, Pará, Tocantins and part of Maranhão. While Sudene operates in all states of the Northeast region and in part of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
