BASA: microcredit lines stimulate small businesses in the Amazon region
Through the microcredit line, the financial institution offers, for example, the BASA Crédito Rural program, which has attractive rates, up to two years for payment and a credit limit of up to R$15,000.
This model is intended for granting financing for investment and funding of agricultural and non-agricultural activities carried out in rural establishments or in nearby community areas. The product is offered to PRONAF B family farmers in the Amazon region.
According to the executive manager of microcredit at Banco da Amazônia, Esmar Prado, to access this type of financing, the worker only needs to present basic documents. “RG, CPF, proof of address and property-specific documents, such as Family Farmer Registration, Declaration of Suitability for PRONAF and Rural Environmental Registration”, he explains.
Since the beginning of the BASA Believe program, around R$1.8 billion has been invested, benefiting 44,700 family farmers and more than 630,000 entrepreneurs in urban areas.
“Around 70% of the entrepreneurs served by the program managed to increase their family income and that of the business served, in many cases removing themselves from extreme poverty. Furthermore, two thirds of these clients are women, heads of families, who end up realizing their dream of providing a better life for their family, their children and themselves”, highlights the executive manager.
In view of this, BASA also operates with a line of credit that strengthens businesses developed by women in the Amazon and the region. The conditions are available to family farmers, urban micro-entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs in the commerce and services sector and artists who propagate regional culture.
BASA Believes Urban
In relation to the BASA Crédito Urbano program, the bank provides financing aimed at groups of entrepreneurs or individuals with gross annual income of up to R$360,000.
Activities financed by BASA Crédito Urbano:
- Commerce: haberdashery, grocery stores, ice cream shops, fruit shops and others;
- Services: barbershops, beauty salons, seamstresses, shoe repairs, various workshops and other activities;
- Production: clothing, bakeries, crafts, carpentry and others.
In this case, the microcredit line has a Credit Opening Rate (TAC) of 3% on the amount of credit granted and interest of 2.74% per month.
Regarding investment in a solidarity group or individual, the limit varies from R$300 to R$6 thousand in the first operation. The condition is the same for working capital in a joint or individual group. In both cases, subsequent operations may have progressive increases of up to R$21 thousand.
Prado also explains that the Basa Believe Program works through a partnership between Banco da Amazônia and an institution specialized in microcredit, called AmazonCred. The project, according to him, has professionals trained and qualified to assist popular entrepreneurs in their own businesses.
“They provide personalized service, carrying out credit applications, socio-economic surveys of the business and the entrepreneur’s family, and also providing advice on business management. The entire credit granting process takes place in the client’s own business, where the registration and credit proposal are sent by the microcredit advisor to the bank virtually, via the Basa Crédito digital platform. This way, we even reach customers in distant communities”, he points out.

Still within Banco da Amazônia’s microcredit package, the financial institution also offers a complementary individual line for those who are already bank customers in the form of microcredit in solidarity groups: BASA Crédito FNO.
To have access to this format, the interested party must have paid off the credit on time in the form of solidarity groups, which involves three to ten entrepreneurs, and the credit limit is up to R$6,000.
To comply with Law 13,636, BASA Crédito FNO credit operations are carried out 100% digitally, in partnership with the institution that operates microcredit for Banco da Amazônia.
