Brazil registers 155,000 formal jobs in May
Brazil registered, in the month of May, a positive balance of 155,270 formal jobs. The result is explained by the difference between the 2,000,202 admissions and just over 1,844,932 dismissals.

The data are from the Novo Caged, General Register of Employees and Unemployed, released this Thursday (29).

In the first five months of the year, 865 thousand jobs were created, reaching a stock of more than 43 million formal jobs in the country.

Despite the positive numbers, the Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho, stated that the result was below the expectation, which was 180,000 jobs, because of the high interest rate policy practiced by the Central Bank.

“What frustrated an even better number – the number is positive, we have to remember that, 155 thousand is not a negligible positive balance for the month of May – but our forecasts were for even higher numbers. of 180,000 jobs. And it is clear what leads to this process. It is precisely the lack of credit and, therefore, the lack of credit is directly linked to the interest rates practiced.”

The minister blamed the monetary authorities not only for the lower-than-expected result but also for sacrificing the country’s accounts.

“I blame the authorities, who would have already started a process of reducing the country’s interest rates. The interest rates practiced, therefore, are not justified. As you sacrifice, not only jobs, you are sacrificing accounts as well, because it means that the Union has to pay more interest. That is, we are burning opportunities to generate employment, burning opportunities to have healthier accounts.”

state cut

The positive balance was recorded in 23 of the 27 Brazilian states, with emphasis on São Paulo, with 50 thousand jobs created, followed by Minas Gerais (26 thousand), and Espírito Santo (13 thousand).

The biggest losses were registered in Alagoas, with a negative balance of 8 thousand jobs, and Rio Grande do Sul, minus 2.5 thousand.

sectional cut

The services sector had the highest growth, of 54% in the month. A balance of 83 thousand vacancies, followed by civil construction, with 27 thousand.

The list is completed by agriculture, with 19,000 new jobs, and commerce and industry, with 15,000 openings.
