Business Confidence registers an increase of 0.2 points in May, points out FGV

In May, the Business Confidence Index (ICE) registered an increase of 0.2 points, reaching 95.8 points. The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Economics of Fundação Getulio Vargas. The balance reveals that this is the highest value since October 2022. In the analysis of quarterly moving averages, the index showed an increase of 0.4 points.

Economist César Bergo highlights that this result is positive for the Brazilian economy due to several factors, such as the increase in investments.

“More confident companies tend to invest more in their businesses. These investments, in the long and medium term, end up helping economic growth. There is also the issue of job creation, because it ends up giving more confidence in hiring people”, he explains.

Municipalities and expectations

For the commercial director of Line Bank BR, Helio Lima, as soon as a group of the economy registers an advance, jobs are also created in the municipalities.

“It will generate development, generate taxes. So municipalities are directly affected by this positive perspective”, he points out.

For Lima, projections for the coming months are positive. However, he highlights a setback in trade.

“Trade fell by four percentage points, we believe it is due to the issue of Rio Grande do Sul. So much of what will happen in the coming months, in terms of projection, will depend on how the announcement of the reconstruction of the state will be signalled”, he highlights.

Cesar Bergo points out that municipalities with better preparation in terms of urban infrastructure will benefit most from the positive result.

“The tendency is for there to be greater investment in the coming months, due to economic issues, such as the increase in inflation, the reduction in the speed of falling interest rates. Also the international scenario, which could negatively impact this optimism among businesspeople, but in any case, the prospect of economic growth”, he concludes.

According to the data, the Business Expectations Index (IE-E) increased by 0.1 point, reaching 95.6 points, with a boost coming from the improvement in projections for business over the next six months.

Businesswoman Soraya Amorim is a partner at Benita Paninoteca. Located in Asa Sul (administrative region of the Federal District), the company has Italian roots and works with the production and sale of artisanal bakery and pasta.

Amorim explains that Benita is experiencing growth, influenced by the hiring of a communications agency, partnership with other restaurants and changes to the menu.

“The expectation for the next few months is to hire two more people and continue this growth flow”, says the businesswoman.
