CNC: household consumption intention grows 2.4% from April to May
The Consumption Intention of Families (ICF) increased by 2.4% from April to May this year, according to data released this Thursday (18) by the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).

Among the seven components of the ICF, the greatest advances were observed in the evaluation of the current moment in relation to the purchase of durable goods (5.5%) and in the current consumption level (3.4%). Current income and consumption prospects also stand out, with increases of 2.9%.

The other components had the following increases: current job (1.6%), professional prospects (1.2%) and access to credit (0.8%). According to the president of the CNC, José Roberto Tadros, the successive falls in inflation have occurred beyond expectations, which makes “consumers more willing to consume”.

On the other hand, according to him, the high level of consumer debt and high interest rates limit disposable income for consumption.

Compared to May 2022, the ICF grew by 21.7%, with increases in the components of moments for durables (35.1%), current consumption level (32.8%), consumption perspective (31.7%) , current income (27.6%), current job (14.9%), professional prospects (13.9%) and access to credit (8.8%).
