Criapará estimates a 50% increase in fish production in 2023

The Gurupá Fish Farmers Association (Criapará) estimates a 50% increase in fish production this year compared to 2022, due to the implementation of new breeding grounds: from 300 tons to 450 tons. The fish is sold in the region and in the neighboring state of Amapá, with a profit of up to 50%. The subject is the theme of the First Week of Fish Farming in Gurupá, in Marajó – PA.

The event, which ends this Thursday (25th) _ and has the participation of over 50 families of agrarian reform settlers _ is promoted by the local office of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater) in partnership with with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMbio) and City Hall.

The fishing engineer at Emater Marajó Cleide Marques explains that the event’s program is aimed at meeting local needs and demands. “The objective of this first Gurupá Fish Farming Week is to serve our audience, bringing quality information about environmental licensing, the granting of genetic water in fish farming, public policies aimed at the sector and intensive fish farming”, she comments.

The engineer points out that the main challenges in fish farming in the region are access to financing for investments, purchase of inputs such as feed and also obtaining quality fry. “Fish farmers get access to financing, but for example, if they want to build other ponds, then they can no longer get the investment”, he adds.
