Fertilizers: project provides for the addition of sodium instead of potassium

Authored by agronomist engineer and former federal deputy Beto Rosado, Bill 3095/22 changes the composition of the chemical mixture used in the manufacture of fertilizers. If approved, the mixture will have the addition of sodium to replace, even partially, potassium, a mineral used in the manufacture of fertilizers that is imported from Russia.

The project is under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies and changes the text of the Law that deals with the production and trade of fertilizers. According to Rosado, the measure will reduce costs for agricultural producers, in addition to being an alternative to dependence on foreign inputs. He explained that “the addition of sodium will contribute to Brazilian agriculture, since several scientific studies suggest the possibility of partially replacing potassium with sodium without loss of productivity or damage to the plants”.

The proposal is subject to conclusive analysis by the Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development committees; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
