‘Forgotten money’: more than R$8 billion has not yet been recovered; see how to find out if you have amounts to receive

O Banco Central of Brazil reported that, to date, more than R$8.5 billion are still available for redemption in the System of Receivables (SVR). This is the so-called “forgotten money”. The data refers to the month of July.

According to the Central Bank, R$6.59 billion is available to almost 42 million individuals. In relation to legal entities, the amount totals R$1.97 billion and was forgotten by approximately 3.5 million companies.

The system is a service provided by the Central Bank, through which it is possible to check whether individuals and companies have any “forgotten money” in a bank, consortium or other institution.

Economist Cesar Bergo points out that, when receiving an unexpected amount, such as that from the SVR, it is “important” to first pay off debts.

“There is no investment in the financial market that gives you a greater return than paying off your debt, so that is the first function. You also have to pay attention to the interest rates charged by banks. So, pay attention to this and try to negotiate. Once you have paid off your debts, you have a cash reserve,” he explains.

“Forgotten money” could be used to fund payroll tax relief

The bill that gradually increases the payroll tax burden for 17 sectors of the economy was approved by the Chamber of Deputies last Wednesday (11). Among other points, the proposal foresees the use of money forgotten in bank accounts to help maintain the tax benefit until the end of 2024. The measure still needs to be approved by the President of the Republic.

The text approved by the deputies, however, provides that it will still be possible to redeem the amounts from financial institutions until December 31, 2027, even if the resources have already been transferred to the National Treasury.

How do I check the amounts to be received?
