Goiás leads the ranking in environmental preservation associated with agribusiness

The state of Goiás led the ranking dthe Midwest region and Matopiba region (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia) in the percentage of preserved area, in relation to its total area, between the years 2010 and 2020, saving 29% of its area. The value corresponds to about 9.9 million hectares.

The data released are from the study “Environmental sustainability in agriculture: analysis of the Forest-saving Effect”, carried out by the Mauro Borges Institute of Socioeconomic Statistics and Research (IMB), which analyzed the environmental sustainability of agriculture in the selected regions.

The institute used the Poupa-Forests indicator, which measures the impact of improved productivity on environmental preservation.

Agronomist Charles Dayler explains that Goiás manages to lead the ranking for investing in technologies to improve sustainability.

“The great differential of Goiás is that it makes a very large investment in increasing productivity and this is reflected in greater production in the same area. So what the study delivers to us is this, that it is worth investing in technology because you will be able to have a greater gain in product generation productivity without having to increase the area”,

In 2020, Goiás had the highest volume referring to agricultural production, around 105 million tons, among the analyzed states.
