The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, announced today (8), in São Paulo, two new directors for the Central Bank (BC). Gabriel Galípolo, who is currently executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, was appointed to the Monetary Policy Board. For the Supervisory Board, the name announced was that of Ailton de Aquino Santos, a career civil servant at the bank.

Names must be approved by the Federal Senate. The BC has a total of eight directors, in addition to the president.

According to Haddad, the names have already received the approval of the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The minister also said that the first person to consider Galípolo for the role was the current BC president, Roberto Campos Neto. The idea is that the nominees promote integration between the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.
