The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, is already in Japan for the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G7, a group of the seven largest economies in the world, formed by the United States, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Canada.

Haddad attend the event as a guestas well as representatives from other emerging countries such as Indonesia and India.

According to the Ministry of Finance, in his speeches, the minister will reinforce Brazil’s relevance on the international scene and discuss necessary reforms for the economy, in addition to creating ties with the G7 actors and their guests.

Haddad arrived in Tokyo this Wednesday (10th) and tomorrow (11th) he will travel by train to Niigata, the host city of the financial G7. The first activity will be a meeting with the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Janet Yellen, to discuss the reform of the World Bank, among other topics of bilateral interest.

On Friday (12), the minister will talk to economist Joseph Stiglitz about the green industrial policy. The G7 activities begin on that day and Haddad has a confirmed presence in all sessions.

“The first table, which will also have the presence of Stiglitz, will address the future of the welfare state. The second session will discuss the macroeconomics of emerging countries, and the third will focus on the challenge of financing, especially in the area of ​​infrastructure”, informed the Ministry of Economy.

The return to Brazil is scheduled for Saturday (13).

Cupola to G7

At the invitation of the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will also go to Japan to participate of the external engagement segment of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima on 20 and 21 May.

On the occasion, the group’s high-level meetings take place, with the participation of the presidents of the countries.

This will be Lula’s seventh participation in the G7 meeting. The Brazilian president was present at six meetings of the group, between 2003 and 2009.
