Data from the Formal Employment survey by the Seade Foundation show that employment in the state of São Paulo had an increase of 0.4% in May compared to April. The generation of more than 50,000 jobs resulted in 617,000 admissions and 567,000 dismissals. With these results, the stock of formal jobs in São Paulo reached 13.3 million, according to Caged.

The May results showed positive variations in all sectors:

  • Agriculture (3.4%)
  • Construction (0.6%)
  • Services (0.4%)
  • Industry (0.2%)
  • Trade (0.2%)

Economist Guidi Nunes claims that these results are positive and may generate more hiring.

“I have a more positive view of these fifty thousand in the face of this situation in which the Brazilian economy, companies have to start increasing contracts by hiring, manpower to handle it”, evaluated the economist.

The significant increase of 11 thousand jobs in agriculture in May was driven by hiring in the permanent crops of orange (6.7 thousand), coffee (1.3 thousand) and activities to support agriculture and livestock (2.9 thousand).

In absolute numbers, the economy of São Paulo created 11,161 thousand jobs in agriculture in May — 4,461 thousand in construction, 25,102 thousand in services, 4,375 thousand in industry and 5,013 in commerce.

In regional terms, the positive highlights of employment in May were in the Capital (15,966), Campinas (10,419), Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (5,822) and Sorocaba (4,182).

From January to May 2023, 240,331 jobs were created in the state of São Paulo — which corresponds to almost 30% of the 865,360 jobs offered by the country in the same period.
