Income Tax: deadline for submitting the declaration ends on May 31

Income Tax: deadline for submitting the declaration ends on May 31
As of this year, the deadline for submission of the Individual Income Tax Declaration (IRPF) is no longer April 30th and is now May 31st. With the extension of the deadline, the taxpayer gained extra time to gather documents and do the accounts calmly, before settling accounts with the “Leão”.

The Federal Revenue informs that it was necessary to change the date, so that all taxpayers can have access to the pre-filled IRPF Declaration, on the first day of delivery.

The federal tax collection sector released a balance sheet on April 19, informing that more than 15 million taxpayers had already submitted the document. The expectation is that 38.5 million to 39.5 million statements will be received this year – a higher number than the record of 2022, when the Tax Authorities received a total of 36,322,912 documents.

who must declare

According to accountant Lucas Lima, from the LL Intelligence in Business Group, all taxpayers who received taxable income above BRL 28,559.70 in 2022 are required to file an IRPF declaration (i.e.: approximately BRL 2,380.00 a month).

“Those who have operated on the Stock Exchange in sums above R$ 40,000 must also declare, or that on December 31, 2022, they had assets and rights that total at least R$ 300,000”, explains the professional.

Attention in filling

Luca Lima recalls that the annual adjustment statement is not only used to inform the Revenue about the assets, rights and income of the individual. “It also serves to prove income with the main financial institutions in Brazil”, he clarified.

The accountant highlights the attention that the taxpayer must have in filling out data. “It is important to be alert to the documents necessary for the Declaration: the main ones are the income reports from the paying sources, as well as the income reports from the financial institutions where the taxpayer has an account”, he guides.

Do not leave to the last minute

Accountant Cristina Carrijo, from the Miranda Accounting Office, warns that the ideal is to organize in advance the necessary documentation to file the Income Tax return, to avoid inconvenience and possible errors. She observes that, in case of doubt, the taxpayer should seek help from a good professional in the accounting area and, above all, not wait to make the declaration “at the last minute”.

“For taxpayers who have not yet made their declarations, I leave a tip: do not leave it for the last day”, he adds, to complete afterwards: “The Federal Revenue system is very overloaded and our computers are having a lot of problems sending these statements, So, anticipate there”, he advises.

how to declare

Income tax returns can be made through the Income Tax Program (PGD/2023)but they can also be forwarded on-line by e-CAC (Virtual Taxpayer Service Center) and by the “Meu Imposto de Renda” application. The program is available for download on operating systems like MacOS, Linux, Windows and other operating systems.
