Industrial sector grows 4.1% in eight of 15 locations surveyed
The productivity of the national industry grew 4.1% in June, in the seasonally adjusted series, compared to the month of May. In total, eight of the 15 locations surveyed performed well. Paraná (4.5%), Pará (3.2%), São Paulo (1.2%) and Mato Grosso (0.9%) were the highlights of the latest survey in the quarterly average. The data are from the Monthly Industrial Survey (PIM) Regional, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

When portraying the quarterly moving average index for the industry, the advance was 0.7% in the quarter ended in June compared to the level of the previous month. According to the survey, when checking the accumulated in the year 2024, the increase was 2.6% in the national industry accompanied by positive results in 16 of the 18 locations surveyed. The state of Rio Grande do Norte registered the sharpest double-digit advance, with 22.9%.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the increase in the industrial sector was 3.2% in 2024, with positive results in 11 of the 18 locations surveyed. The most intense increase was in Maranhão (17.3%).

According to the study, when comparing the results of the first quarter of 2024 with the second quarter of 2024, compared to the same periods of the previous year, eight of the 18 locations surveyed showed a gain in dynamism, thus following the movement observed in the national total, which went from 1.9% to 3.3%.

The activities of cellulose, paper and paper products (cellulose) and metallurgy (aluminum oxide), coke, petroleum products and biofuels (diesel oil), food products (fresh or chilled beef, cakes, bagasse, bran and other residues from the extraction of soybean oil and VHP sugar) and textile products are examples of services that contributed to the positive result in some locations.

Results down

In the opposite direction, the Northeast Region (-6.0%), Bahia (-5.4%) and Pernambuco (-5.2%) showed the steepest declines in June, with the first two falling again after advancing 4.7% and 9.0% in May, and the latter marking the second consecutive month of falling production, a period in which it accumulated a loss of 8.7%. The other negative results were recorded in Goiás (-4.6%), Amazonas (-3.4%) and Mato Grosso (-2.1%).

Espírito Santo (-9.6%) and Amazonas (-5.7%) showed significant declines, mainly driven by activities in extractive industries (pelletized or sintered iron ore and crude petroleum oils), coke, petroleum products and biofuels.
