INSS beneficiaries receive the first half of their 13th salary

Retirees and pensioners from the National Social Security Institute (INSS) have already started receiving the first half of the 13th salary installment. The amounts are being deposited together with the benefit corresponding to the month of April — which is distributed between April 24th and May 8th. In a measure announced last month, the federal government decided to bring forward this payment, which normally takes place in August.

This anticipation will cover around 33.6 million benefits, representing an increase of approximately R$33.68 billion in the country’s economic circulation, according to March payroll data.

The advance amount is equivalent to 50% of the total annual allowance — and there is no Income Tax deduction on this first part. If applicable, the tax will only be withheld from the second installment, scheduled to be distributed between the end of May and the beginning of June.

For Roberta Veras, accountant and member of the National Volunteer Commission of the Federal Accounting Council, it is important to save part of the amount as an emergency reserve.

“Usually unforeseen events happen throughout the year and people don’t have money saved for an emergency, like a pipe at home that burst; It got sick. So this is money very well spent, if you save it for this purpose”, she explains.

Another alternative is to invest the amount in a Bank Deposit Certificate (CDB), a fixed income investment, or in savings. She points out that it needs to be an application that has immediate liquidity for those who do not know how to use financial applications.

“If you don’t know how to use a financial application, go to your bank manager and suggest that he make a CDB application with automatic redemption of your account. It’s a good alternative. Or you leave it in a linked savings account, if you need it urgently, you redeem it. Many people want to earn interest very quickly on this money — but remember that is not the purpose”, he highlights.

For defaulters, she advises that they think about the possibility of negotiating the debt and paying it to have a clean name.

Payment calendar

The first to receive are those insured with benefits whose last digit is 1. And whose income does not exceed the current minimum wage (R$1,412). Those with a final digit from 1 to 5 received payment in the last five business days of April.

On the other hand, policyholders with final digits from 6 to 9 — and those ending in 0 — will have payments credited to beneficiaries with incomes above the minimum wage, in the first five business days of May.

The complete INSS payment calendar can be accessed on the 2024 calendar link.

How to consult

Policyholders can check their benefit card number on the website or in the Meu INSS app, clicking on the “Payment statement” service. To do this, it is necessary to carry out the login with a password on the gov.br portal.

It is also possible to consult information through telephone exchange 135, which is available from Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 10pm.

Who receives

Insured persons and pensioners who received temporary benefits throughout 2024, such as temporary disability aid and incarceration aid, receive the thirteenth salary. In these circumstances, the amount is calculated proportionally to the period in which the benefit was received.

In addition, those who receive maternity pay are also entitled to a proportional thirteenth salary. However, it is paid together with the last installment of the benefit, unlike other beneficiaries who receive the extra amount on different dates.

On the other hand, beneficiaries of the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC) for the elderly and people with disabilities are not entitled to the additional amount of the thirteenth salary.
