More than 5.75 million taxpayers who sent their Personal Income Tax Declaration can now consult the second of the five refund batches for 2024. In total, these taxpayers will receive R$8.5 billion. The batch also includes refunds remaining from previous years.

According to the Federal Revenue, the entire amount will be allocated to taxpayers with priority for refund. Due to the floods that occurred in Rio Grande do Sul this year, taxpayers from Rio Grande do Sul were added to the list of priorities. The batch covers approximately 250 thousand taxpayers from the state of Rio Grande do Sul who are entitled to receive the refund.

Adriano Morocco, advisor to the Federal Accounting Council (CFC) and coordinator of the National Personal Income Tax Commission explains, at the time of declaration, some taxpayers find that they have paid less than they should and, therefore, need to supplement. Others paid more and receive a refund, which corresponds to the excess amount.

“The taxpayer must fill out the annual Income Tax adjustment declaration, and if a refund is received, he or she will have to indicate the current account to credit the amount or Pix CPF. The Federal Revenue, however, has a deadline to pay, as need to preliminarily check the data received”, he informs.

Asafe Gonçalves, specialist in tax law and managing partner of Asafe Gonçalves Advogados, explains that the Federal Revenue Service releases several batches of refunds for those who are entitled.

“Whoever is entitled is anyone who declared the (Income Tax), presented proof of expenditure and was entitled to a deduction. An automatic calculation is made by the Federal Revenue Service and, knowing that there is an amount to be refunded, it will deposit it in the account that was informed when declaring Income Tax”, he highlights.

How to check the refund?

To check the refund, taxpayers can access the IRS on the Internet. Just click on “My Income Tax” and then select “Consult Refund”. In addition, the consultation is also available on the Federal Revenue app for tablets and smartphones.

Payment will be made on June 28th, directly to the bank account or to the CPF type Pix key informed in the declaration. If the taxpayer is not included in the batch, it will be necessary to access the Virtual Taxpayer Service Center and consult the declaration extract. If there are pending issues, you can rectify the declaration and wait for the next batches of fine mesh.
