Minas Gerais has the lowest unemployment rate in the Southeast

The unemployment rate in Minas Gerais was 6.8% in the first quarter of 2023. The result represents the lowest rate among the Southeast states and is also below the national average, which is 8.8%. The data are contained in the Quarterly Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the Southeast, the highest unemployment rate was registered in Rio de Janeiro, with 11.6%. Soon after appears São Paulo, with 8.5% and Espírito Santo, with 7%. Alexandre Arci, a financial educator, believes that this result is the result of a continuous search for attracting investment.

“Putting in this way employability as a differential factor of the state. In addition, the search for public policies to improve the professional qualification of miners ”, he comments.

Data from the National Employment System (Sine) show that, currently, the state has more than 12,000 job openings available.

According to the state government, throughout 2023 BRL 4.9 million should be invested in incentives for Sine services, as well as for employability projects. In a note, the director of Monitoring and Articulation of Work Opportunities at Headquarters, Amanda Carvalho, points out that “within the scope of productive inclusion, in 2023 alone, a contribution of BRL 3.4 million is foreseen for generation projects income, such as Trajeto Moda, which aims to qualify socially vulnerable women for the fashion market”.

The director reveals that, with these qualification projects, the expectation is to train another three thousand people, still this year, in at least 26 municipalities.
