Pará is the main agricultural producer in the North of the country, with a VBP of R$ 28 billion
According to the general coordinator of policies and information, from the Ministry of Agriculture, José Garcia Gasques, within livestock, the most prominent sectors are beef and chicken. “Cattle farming represents almost 90% of the value of livestock in the state of Pará, this average is higher than the average Brazilian average. state is increasing, it’s the chicken.”
In the last four quarters, the highlight of the VBP in livestock were cattle, R$ 10 billion, followed by chicken – more than R$ 834 million. According to Fernando Iglesias, an analyst at Safras & Mercado and specialist in the meat sector, Pará has some competitive advantages compared to other states because it manages to maintain a good area of pasture all year round, due to the climate. “Basically, the rainfall in the North region is very regular, which allows extensive production of live cattle, things that other regions of the country do not dazzle. So, investment in livestock, involving the culture of the state, it is a product of this diversified climate, the ability to maintain a good pasture area all year round, ”he explains.
In addition, he points out that the state invests in innovations, such as the intensification of rotating pasture, and in good business management for marketing. This is fundamental for a good return in the coming years. Iglesias also claims that this should be a good year for livestock profitability, with a perspective of cost reduction.

The second highest VBP was soybeans, at more than R$ 6 billion. And grain exports reached a value of R$ 808 million.
Luiz Fernando, consultant at Safras & Mercado, says that Pará had a good result also due to the favorable climate, but that it may not be maintained for the coming months. “Because El Niño years tend to be drier in the North and Northeast. So, there is this challenge this year, which is the possibility of us having a problem due to the weather. But if all goes well, Pará should have a good crop”, he informs.
Other highlights were cassava (R$ 3.6 billion) and cocoa (R$ 1.9 billion). In the state, the 22/23 harvest had an increase of 4.4 thousand tons, while the 21/22 harvest was 3.9 thousand.
