Paraná: retail sales grow 1.6% in the first four months of the year
Brazilian trade recorded a 1.2% increase in sales in the first four months of 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year. The state of Paraná had a growth of 1.6% in April. The sectors that stood out the most were fuel, pharmaceuticals, furniture and vehicles. Revenue also had an increase of 4.8% in April and 7.1% in the four-month period in Paraná. Nationally, sales grew 3.3% in the first four months and revenues increased 9.1%.

For economist Guidi Nunes, the scenario is positive since Paraná achieved significant growth.

“It had a significant, reasonable growth, 1.6% compared to the previous month of 2022. This growth in trade evaluates what is very driven by the agricultural sector, which is robust in both Paraná and Bahia. Agricultural sector that had a large production in this first quarter of 2023 and this pulls as it is in the data here the growth of lubricating fuel trades which was 11.4%, and along with that there were the social policies of the federal government, which also helped low-income segments to increase their consumption power”, highlights Nunes.

The sectors that most stood out in sales throughout the year were fuels and lubricants (11.4%), pharmaceutical, medical, perfumery and cosmetics articles (7.4%), furniture and home appliances (3.2%) and vehicles , motorcycles, parts and accessories (0.7%). In the month of April, compared to April 2022, the biggest increases occurred in pharmaceutical, medical, perfumery and cosmetics articles (16.1%), fuels and lubricants (9.7%), furniture and household appliances (2.4 %) and specialized wholesale in food products, beverages and tobacco (0.3%).

In Paraná, revenue from the commercial sector grew by 4.8% in April and 7.1% in the first four months, in addition to an increase of 9% in the last twelve months. The sectors that most contributed to this increase were hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco, furniture and household appliances, vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces, fabric, clothing and footwear, and pharmaceutical, medical, perfumery and cosmetics. Nationally, sales volume grew 3.3% in the first four months and 3.1% in April, compared to the same period in 2022. Revenues also grew by 9.1% in the first four months of the year and from 6.2% in the comparison between April 2022 and April 2023.
