Petrobras announced this Tuesday (16) a 21.3% reduction in the average selling price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The measure is part of what the company’s president, Jean Paul Prates, classified as a new commercial pricing strategy by the oil company for the domestic market.

Starting this Wednesday (17th), Petrobras will sell the 13-kilogram cylinder of LPG to distributors for an average price of R$ 8.97 less than the current price. If the distributors transfer the savings in full to the final consumer, the cylinder will be able to reach homes for an average price of R$ 99.87.

“This is the best news. We lowered (the price of the cylinder) by R$ 100”, commented Prates shortly after meeting with the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, in Brasília. According to the president of Petrobras, this is the first time since October 2021 that the price of a gas cylinder sold to distributors has fallen below R$100.

In addition to the reduction in the price of LPG, the oil company’s new commercial strategy also includes a decrease in average prices sales of diesel and gasoline A to distributors of, respectively, R$ 0.44 and R$ 0.40.

The reduction in prices of products for resale, however, depends on several factors, such as taxes, blend of biofuels and profit margins from distribution and resale. “We will have the best price alternative for our customers at each Petrobras point of sale. Remembering that (in the case of fuel) the company no longer has a distributor”, added Prates.
