Pis/Pasep balance: Caixa releases R$25 billion for withdrawal; check who is entitled

Caixa Econômica Federal released R$ 25.4 billion for PIS/PASEP withdrawals. According to the institution, workers who have a balance of quotas have until August 5 to withdraw the amounts. The money can be withdrawn through the Severance Pay Fund (FGTS) application, and it is not necessary to go to bank branches.

According to Caixa, until 2017, the resource could only be withdrawn by people over 70 years old, retirees, people with serious illnesses or heirs of beneficiaries. However, since the publication of the MP (946/2020) who transferred the resources to the FGTS, the full withdrawal of PIS-PASEP quotas is available to holders or legal beneficiaries, in the case of a deceased holder.

who has the right

According to the financial institution, 10.5 million workers have a PIS-PASEP balance available for withdrawal. Those who worked with a formal contract in the private sector or as a public servant in the period from 1971 to 1988 are entitled to withdraw the resources.

Doctor in economics and professor at Mackenzie University, Hugo Garbe advises that indebted workers should use the payment to settle debts. “Mainly the most expensive debts, the credit card, for example, it has one of the most expensive interest rates in Brazil”, he points out.

The economist adds that it is important to save part of the amount to create an emergency reserve. “You have to save that money to count on that money at important moments in life. Some health problem or becoming unemployed, anyway”, he considers.

If the withdrawal is not carried out by August 5, the amounts will be transferred to the National Treasury. However, interested parties may still request a new withdrawal from the Union within a period of up to 5 (five) years.

The rules for requesting reimbursement are yet to be disclosed in a joint Ordinance by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning and Budget.

How to consult and withdraw

According to the bank, to request a withdrawal, simply open the application, select the message “You have a withdrawal available”, then click on “Request PIS/PASEP withdrawal”. The worker must choose the form of withdrawal (account credit or face-to-face), check their data and select “Confirm withdrawal”.

The balance can be credited to the bank account of any institution chosen by the worker, at no cost. In the case of a deceased worker, the beneficiary must access their own FGTS Application and request the withdrawal in the “My Withdrawals” option, then “Other Withdrawal Situations” and then choose the “PIS/PASEP – Worker’s Death” option. attach the necessary documents and confirm the request.

If the worker fits into any hypothesis of withdrawing the FGTS and has a PIS-PASEP account, the balance of that account is released together with the FGTS.

In case of doubt, workers can access the FGTS application or call 4004-0104, for capitals and metropolitan regions, or 0800 104 0104, for other regions.
