Pre-salt oil and gas production grows 5.9% from April to May
The Monthly Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin for May, released this Tuesday (4) by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), reveals that production in the pre-salt region reached 3.196 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. This total corresponds to 77.8% of Brazilian production. 2.510 million barrels of oil per day and 109.16 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of natural gas were produced in 144 wells. The recorded increase was 5.9% compared to April this year and 12.7% compared to the same month last year.

In total, in May 2023, 4.110 million barrels of oil equivalent per day were produced in the country, of which 3.201 million barrels of oil and 144.410 million cubic meters of natural gas. In oil, there was an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous month and 11.2% compared to May 2022. In natural gas, production increased by 2% compared to April 2023 and 9.6% compared to the same month last year.

According to the ANP, variations in production are expected. They can occur due to factors such as scheduled shutdowns of production units for maintenance, start-up of wells, stoppage of wells for maintenance or cleaning, start of commissioning of new production units, among others. The ANP considers that such actions are typical of oil and natural gas production and aim at a stable and continuous operation, as well as increasing production over time.

In May, the use of natural gas was 97.1%. 51.22 million m³/d were made available to the market and the burning was 4.14 million m³/d. There was an increase in burning of 6.9% compared to the previous month and a reduction of 9.4% compared to May 2022.

In May, offshore fields produced 97.7% of oil and 86.6% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, in consortium with other companies or not, accounted for 89.64% of the total produced. Production came from 5,999 wells, 500 offshore and 5,499 onshore.

In May, Campo de Tupi, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, was the largest producer of oil and gas, registering 835.37 thousand barrels per day of oil and 40.61 million cubic meters of natural gas per day . The facility with the highest production of oil and natural gas was the FPSO (Floating Storage and Transfer Unit) Guanabara, located in the shared Mero deposit, with 170,583 thousand barrels per day of oil and 10.82 million cubic meters of gas per day.
