Rio Grande do Sul ends May with an incentive of R$ 319.5 million for eleven industries in the State
The monthly meeting of the Technical Analysis Group (Gate) discussed the recent incentives granted to undertakings in Rio Grande do Sul, through the Rio Grande do Sul State Operation Company Fund (Fundopem) and the State Industrial Development Program (Proedi). In May, the amount approved was R$319.5 million, of which R$249.5 million came from Fundopem and R$70 million from Proedi.

In total, ten projects were contemplated by Fundopem, six medium-sized, three large-sized and one small-sized. These projects will result in the generation of 239 direct jobs. In addition, a project was approved by Proedi, which provides for the creation of 140 new jobs.

Economist Guidi Nunes says that discussing the issue is extremely important for the economic sector in the state.

“It is an important Gate meeting to renew the issue of economic incentives for the state of Rio Grande Sul. It is essential that the incentives have their conditionalities to improve efficiency, conditionalities involving local and regional development policies, sectoral development policy, and especially at this moment the economic, environmental and social issue”, emphasizes economist Guidi Nunes

Compared to the month of April, the amount approved by Fundopem in May had an increase of 87.4%, going from R$ 133.1 million to R$ 249.5 million. In addition, 70 more jobs were created in May than in the previous month. Funds from the Operation Fund will be used for various purposes, such as expansion of industrial units, installation of new plants, increase in production capacity and modernization of structures.

The ten approved projects are distributed in seven different regions of the state, including Serra, Vale do Taquari, Vale do Caí, Colonial Northwest, West Frontier, Central and North. The benefited companies are located in the municipalities of Bento Gonçalves, Caxias do Sul, Encantado, Estrela, Erechim, Farroupilha, Horizontina, Ijuí, Júlio de Castilhos and Vale Real. These industries belong to different sectors, such as food, capital goods, biofuels, grains and cereals, metalworking, electronics, petrochemicals, plastics, rubbers and viticulture.

It should be noted that the project by the multinational John Deere, located in Horizontina, on Fronteira Noroeste, received the highest amount of funding, totaling R$ 145.1 million, and will result in the creation of 152 jobs. The company intends to invest in expanding its production capacity, aiming to increase the annual production of harvesters and cutting platforms.

SGM Indústria de Cosméticos, headquartered in Encantado, in Vale do Taquari, received the lowest amount of financing, totaling R$ 992.7 thousand. These resources will be used in the expansion and modernization of the production line of hygiene and cosmetic products.
