In a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, this Monday (12), the governor of the state of Rio, Cláudio Castro, discussed the shared management of Santos Dumont (domestic) and Galeão (international) airports. The administration of the two air terminals would be carried out in partnership between the Union, the state and the city of Rio.

According to a note released by the state government, the proposal would have come from the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa. “The president really liked the idea of shared management so that we could find a definitive solution. It will still be seen what business model will be used to carry out this management with responsibility”, said Castro, through a note.

The status of the two airports has been discussed for some months now. Rio government and city hall criticize the fact that Santos Dumont Airport – administered by the Union through Infraero – has greatly increased the number of flights.

This caused an emptying of the Tom Jobim/Galeão International Airport, managed by the concessionaire Changi, from Singapore.

State and City Hall ask for the relocation of flights from Santos Dumont to Galeão, since, with fewer domestic connections passing through Galeão, the international airport not only has its passenger traffic reduced, but also its ability to function as a hub (air connection point) for international flights.

The status of the Tom Jobim/Galeão airport concession is being evaluated by the federal government.

The governor also took advantage of the meeting with the president to address the situation of the Tupi and Cernambi oil fields, in the Santos Basin. Rio defends the unitization of the two fields (when it is recognized that the reservoir that supplies both fields is the same), which would benefit the state.

The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) understands that the two fields are one, while Petrobras defends that they be recognized as two separate fields.

In the dispute, according to the government of Rio, there would be R$ 4 billion in judicial deposits made by Petrobras, which the state would like to receive.

“At other times in history, the federal government had already released this resource and I asked for it to be released again. The president said he will assess whether there is a condition to make this release and showed goodwill “, said Castro, in the note released by the state government.

The governor also proposed the stateization of the Federal Hospital of Lagoa, so that it can transform it into a large cancer treatment center to relieve the National Cancer Institute (Inca).
