Services grow 0.9% from February to March, reveals IBGE survey
The volume of services in the country grew 0.9% from February to March this year. It is the second consecutive high of the indicator, which had already grown 0.7% from January to February. The data are from the Monthly Service Survey (PMS), released this Tuesday (16), in Rio de Janeiro, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The sector also showed growth of 6.3% in comparison with March, 5.8% in the year and 7.4% in the 12 months.

The 0.9% expansion was driven by rises in three of the five activities surveyed by the IBGE: transport, auxiliary services to transport and mail (3.6%), professional, administrative and complementary services (2.6%) and information and communication (0.2%).

At the same time, services provided to families (-1.7%) and other services (-0.6%) fell.

Tourism is up

Nominal revenue from services grew 0.8% compared to February of this year, 11.8% compared to March 2022, 12% in the year and 14.7% in the 12 months.

The segment of tourist activities, analyzed separately by the survey, changed by 0.1% in March, after falling by 1.3% in February. As a result, the tourism sector is 1.4% above the pre-pandemic level (February 2020), but 5.9% below the highest point in the series (February 2014).
