The Simples Nacional Management Committee extended the due dates for taxes for individual microentrepreneurs (MEI), microenterprises (ME) and small businesses (EPP) located in Rio Grande do Sul. The ordinance published in the Official Gazette of the Union benefits taxpayers of 336 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul — which are under public calamity after the rains that hit the state in recent days.
The extension applies to taxes due in May and June. According to the text, those whose final payment date is May 20th will be due on June 20th, while those who would be due on June 20th will have a new deadline: July 22nd.
According to the Federal Revenue, taxpayers who choose to extend their taxes from June to July should be careful, as in addition to paying the taxes whose initial due date was June 20, they will also have to adjust the amounts for the month of July.
The payment of taxes contained in the MEI’s Simples Nacional Collection Document (DAS) is among those whose due date was postponed by one month. Entrepreneurs who have already issued the May and June invoices can generate new invoices in the Generator Program or in the MEI application with the new due dates.
According to the concierge, the extension does not mean the right to a refund of taxes that have already been collected. Décio Lima, president of Sebrae Nacional, states that the extension of the payment deadline for Simples taxes brings some relief to entrepreneurs in Rio Grande do Sul affected by the heavy rains. He also highlighted that the entity is studying measures to mitigate the impacts of the tragedy on local businesses.
“We will take all measures to protect, above all, those brave men and women from Rio Grande do Sul who always woke up early to start their small business. We will overcome these difficulties with this great concept that we cannot miss — that of solidarity “, he points out.
Impact
Rio Grande do Sul has around 1.5 million micro and small businesses, according to the state’s Sebrae. It is estimated that the floods have directly damaged the functioning of 600,000 of them.
Businessman in the accounting sector and president of the Federation of Micro and Small Business Associations of Rio Grande do Sul, Wagner Silveira considers the extension of federal tax due dates for Rio Grande do Sul entrepreneurs who collect through Simples to be positive, but highlights that, given the impact of the rains on the activities of most of the state’s companies, it will be even better if the federal government forgives these debts.
“The measures taken by the government in relation to the postponement of federal tax due dates was something that will help businesspeople at a certain point, but we understand that in this chaotic moment, especially entrepreneurs who were affected by the flood, the anguish that comes to us through them is that there be a tax amnesty. This would fully address the need.”
