The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, informed that the fly Brazil program, which will offer tickets for R$ 200, could reach 1.5 million airline tickets per month. The project is expected to start in August, said França, in a master class at the Institute of Geography, on the Maracanã campus of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj), this Thursday (13).

The objective is to benefit people who have not flown in the last 12 months. Each ticket segment is fixed at R$ 200 and each person can only buy four segments.

“We are going to start with retirees, pensioners and, eventually, civil servants”, said the minister. “The program initially has the capacity to (serve) 1.5 million tickets per month. But let’s start gradually. This program has no public funding. We are only using the empty seats of the companies,” he explained.

According to the minister, the companies Latam, Gol and Azul joined the project. “It is quite possible that we will have a great demand for tickets, which will allow the flights to be fully booked. By allowing flights to be fully booked, you are able to have more flights and then you fill them with regional airports”, said França.

According to the minister, the intention is to sell these cheaper tickets outside the high season, in two periods, from February to June and from August to November, when traditionally there is an average idleness of 21% on domestic flights.
