With a surplus of BRL 6 billion, São Paulo grows 4.3% in agribusiness exports in 2023

Agribusiness in the State of São Paulo showed an increase in exports of 4.3% in the first four months of 2023, compared to the same period last year. In values, the São Paulo sector reached BRL 7.75 billion in sales abroad and BRL 1.73 billion in imports. As a result, the agro had a surplus of R$ 6 billion and 4% higher than in 2022. Data are from the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo.

Economist Alexandre Arci, founding partner of Capital Investimentos, highlights the causes of this result and what is expected for the country’s economy in the coming months.

“Agribusiness imports in the state of São Paulo grew by more than 4% in 2023. Some very important points, in addition to the climate and high technology in production, meant that the sector of meat, soy, forest products, juices and the sugar-alcohol complex accounted for more than 70% of foreign sales in this sector. The expectation is very positive, making the surplus, within the accounts of the state of São Paulo, become recurrent for the coming months, this brings a stronger sector and more resources into the economy,” he explains.

Between January and April of this year, the main exporting groups of agribusiness in São Paulo were: the sugar-alcohol complex, which registered 1.95 billion, of which sugar reached 79.5%, soy 1.55 billion _ having soy in grain with 88.7% of participation in the group. The beef sector accounted for 78.6%, forest products R$883.40 million, with participation of 53.5% of pulp and 38.4% of paper and juices at R$682.7 million, of which 97 .3% were related to orange juice.

These five associates accounted for 77.4% of the sector’s sales, according to information provided by the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo.
